From various student & human rights activists worldwide:

It has been a week since 17 political prisoners currently detained in Evin Prison in Tehran, have gone on hunger strike. They have been protesting against the inhumane conditions which they have been kept under, the violence they have endured, deprivation from their fundamental rights (including being deprived from receiving visits from their family while in prison). Their names are: Ali Malihi, Bahman Ahmadi Amouie, Hossein Nouraninejad, Abdollah Momeni, Ali Parviz, Hamid Reza Mohammadi, Jafar Eghdami, Babak Bordbar, Zia Nabavi, Ebrahim (Nader) Babaie, Koohyar Goudarzi, Majid Dori, Majid Tavakoli, Keyvan Samimi, Qolamhossein Arashi, Payman Karimi and Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad. We wish to express our solidarity towards them and our support towards the peaceful struggle for the respect of human rights and for freedom in Iran. Many of us, Iranian and non-Iranian activists, join the on going hunger strike in Evin, as a sign of support and solidarity towards our brothers in prison. Again and by our actions, we wish to draw the world’s and the international authorities attention towards the dramatic situation in Iran. We demand that the constant violation of fundamental human rights and the violence to which the citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran are subject to, must end. We ask all international organizations, in particular the United Nations and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mrs. Navanethem Pillay, to act with utmost urgency so that the fundamental human rights in Iran are respected and that law and order are restored in the country. The voice of our protest is joined to that of our 17 brothers whom are currently on hunger strike in Evin prison.
