Vancouver Activists at the Olympics: An opening ceremony of their own

On February 13th, well over a hundred activists in Vancouver gathered in the rain on the side of Winter Olympics “highway” to show their support for the people of Iran, while firmly calling for an end to murder, torture, rape, and executions. The event was hosted by Neda for Freedom, a non-partisan, Vancouver-based human & civil rights organization working to promote basic rights in Iran. Organizers reported that much attention was received as people wandered by the crowds on the streets along the main Olympic road. One coordinator also reported that US Vice-President Joe Biden, who is acting as the US delegate during the winter games, walked by and took note of the demonstration.
