Come join the UCSD Students for Civil Rights in Iran for a screening and Q+A of Jafar Panahi’s “Offside”, a film dealing with the oppression of women in Iran. The film centers around the barring of women from professional soccer matches and their defiance of the ban for the love of the sport and more importantly, civil rights.
Over the past month, Panahi has been illegally imprisoned due to his outspoken support of the Green Movement in Iran. Panahi’s condition has worsened due to emotional stress and faces a possible heart-attack. Film critics associations to organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have called for his release. [Click here for more info about Jafar Panahi’s Arrest.]
A professor at UCSD will discuss Panahi, the Green Movement and have a Q+A about the film and the movement it represents.
