For over a decade, 18th Tir has represented peaceful civil disobedience in face of brutal crackdown and paved the way for the ongoing struggle for freedom of speech, civil and human rights by Iranian students and other members of society. On 9 July 2010, Unite4Iran London held a peaceful event in front of City Hall in remembrance of Iranian students who lost their lives and liberty during the peaceful protests 18th of Tir, 1378. Over a 100 human rights activists joined together to light 200 lanterns of hope. More than 500 passersby stopped to see the spectacular display of lanterns as they floated away in the night sky. Many asked for more information about 18th Tir and the struggle for human rights in Iran and many joined in by lighting lanterns in support. A large message for imprisoned student Behrouz Javid Tehrani was displayed to highlight the unlawful treatment and danger faced by students who participate in peaceful expression of their rights. A few supporters also fashioned turbans made of newspaper to represent the closure of the reformist newspaper Salam and the numerous other publications that have been banned since 1999. The scene from London’s South Bank, against the backdrop of Tower Bridge, together with the support of various groups supporting human rights in Iran and the spontaneous shows of solidarity by members of the public was an incredible sight. در سالگرد ۱۸ تیر و فاجعه کوه دانشگاه و در حمایت از جنبش دانشجویی و جنبش مردمی ایران، جمعی از ایرانیان مقیم لندن در حرکتی نمادین، آسمان لندن را با فانوس‌های بیشماری روشن کردند. در طی این حرکت که توسط گروه اتحاد برای ایران لندن، تنظیم و تدارک دیده شده بود، تعداد ۲۰۰ عدد فانوس به یاد و خاطره جانباختگان این روز و همچنین شهدای جنبش سبز ایران و با زنده نگاه داشتن نام تمامی زندانیان سیاسی در بند، به هوا فرستاده شد.
این حرکت نمادین که با حمایت گروها و حامیان دیگر جنبش سبز لندن انجام شد، مورد استقبال بسیاری بالای توسط شهروندان خارجی که در آن محل حضور داشتند قرار گرفت و دقایقی پس از شروع برنامه بسیاری از این شهروندان به این حرکت پیوستند و حمایت خود را نسبت به جنبش مدنی مردم ایران ابراز کردند.
در طی این برنامه که از ساعت ۹ شب شروع و تا ساعت ۱۱ شب به طول انجامید، اعلامیه های در بین جمعیت حاضر پخش شد که خلاصه‌ای از شرح واقعه ۱۸ تیر و دیگر وقایع اخیر بعد از انتخابات ایران در آن ذکر شده بود.
در طول ۳ ساعت انجام این برنامه که در یکی از مشهور‌ترین محل‌های توریستی لندن که در حاشیه رودخانه تیمز و در نزدیکی ٔپل قدیمی و مشهور لندن واقع است، شاهده صحنهای زیبا، عاطفی و انسانی بودیم که شما را به دیدن گوشه‌ای از این صحنها دعوت می‌کنیم
