An Appeals Court has upheld the sentence of Moshfegh Samandari, a student activist in Northern Iran. He has been sentenced to six months in prison. His charge has been stated as “propagating Bahai faith,” and he had previously served 80 days in solitary confinement in Ministry of Information’s Sari detention center. During his detention, Samandari suffered heart problems as a result of mental pressure during his interrogations under unsuitable detention conditions. He is currently under medical treatment. In his initial court, another Mazandaran University student activist and student campaigner, Mehdi Davoodian, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment suspended for three years. This student activist had formerly served 20 days in solitary confinement at Ministry of Information’s Sari detention center after he was arrested following the recent protests. Mohsen Barzegar is another student activist from Noshirvani Industrial University who is currently serving his ten-month prison sentence at Mati Kola Prison in Babol on charges of “actions against national security.” During a recent telephone call, he spoke of his ill health and poor detention conditions in the murderers’ ward of Babol Prison where he, Iman Sadighi, and Mohammad Esmaeelzadeh, two other Babol University students, are serving their prison terms.
