Mahmoud Alizadeh Tabatabaee, Jahanbakhsh Khanjani’s attorney, told the Iranian Student’s News Agency on Wednesday: “According to the verdict issued by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Courts, Mr. Khanjani has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment on charges of ‘propaganda against the state,’ and five years of imprisonment on charges of ‘congregation and mutiny for actions against national security.’ He said that he will file for an appeal within the legal time limits.” Mr. Khanjani’s family told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that he did not leave his house after the elections due to sickness and that he did not participate in any congregations after the elections. Over the past few weeks, many political activists who were arrested on the days after the elections have faced heavy sentences of five to twelve years in prison. Khanjani, an Iran-Iraq War veteran, has physical and nervous system problems that his long imprisonment has exacerbated. One of his family members told the Campaign that due to the lack of medical care in prison, his condition has deteriorated. In one of his meetings with his wife he told her “Save me.” Zahra Mohammadi, Khanjani’s wife, wrote a letter to Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, saying: “My husband has been in solitary confinement for the past four months and this is a clear case of torture.
