June 8, 2011 Iran Mission to the UN in Manhattan (622 Third Avenue) Please be there by 10:15am – Begins at 10:30am

Amnesty International will carry out an action on Wednesday June 8 at the Iran Mission to the UN in Manhattan, located at 622 Third Avenue.  We invite you to join the action and inform your contacts and encourage them to attend. The purpose of the action is two-fold. We will symbolically rename the location right outside the Mission “Azadi Square” (Freedom Square) as part of the Amnesty International/United4Iran Azadi Square campaign. Activists will have their photos taken holding signs with Azadi Square written in both Persian and English. The photos will be used in our virtual Azadi Square campaign. The other purpose is to deliver a stack of petitions on behalf of persecuted Iranian film director Jafar Panahi to the UN Mission. The Amnesty delegation will be led by prominent film director Paul Haggis who has generously devoted his time to helping our campaign for Jafar Panahi, who is appealing a six year prison sentence and a ban on carrying out his professional activities. Actress Nazanin Boniadi will also accompany the Amnesty International delegation. The action will commence at 10:30 am and we encourage activists to arrive by 10:15 am. Amnesty will have some signs but feel free to bring signs (no political slogans please–just human rights messages).
