We are proud to announce the latest IranCubator app, #NahoftApp. Nahoft means “hidden” in Persian and it’s a state-of-the-art encryption app made for Android mobile phones. It’s not a messaging service, however. Instead, it piggy-backs on third-party apps like Telegram, WhatApp, Facebook and even state-sanctioned apps like Saroush to safely deliver its messages.
We hope that Nahoft will help Iranian activists, journalists, and civil society organizations to safely access information, exchange ideas, advocate for human rights, and continue to organize undetected by the regime, especially during Internet shutdowns. We also hope that it will be used by tech-savvy Iranians who are looking to have more digital, cultural and social freedom.
How This Toolkit Works
Our goal is to introduce you—our partner organizations, advocates, and civil liberties and human rights technologists—to the #NahoftApp and invite you to help us raise awareness about this new app among your base of supporters via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. We really believe that this app could be very important now and in the future. Unfortunately, it is not a question of if, but when, the next Internet shutdown will take place in Iran.
We are hoping that you’ll help us spread the word and invite your supporters to download our app, try it out, and begin sending secure messages to people they trust inside and out of Iran.

- Check out the latest app launched by @United4IranFB’s #IranCubator. Nahoft It’s a state-of-the-art encryption app made for Android mobile phones. It will be an incredibly useful tool during the next Internet shutdown in Iran. We all remember what happened in 2019. During the #AbanProtests, IRI managed to shut the Internet off for a whole week, effectively gagging and blinding its citizens. No information flowed in or out of Iran. Meanwhile, Iranian forces ruthlessly cracked down on their own people and killed at least 304 people. We hope that #NahoftApp—and other apps like it—will better support Iranian activists, journalists, and civil society organizations if and when the next #InternetShutdown happens. - @United4IranFB just launched their 10th #IranCubator app: #NahoftApp. IranCubator brings together Iranian civil society leaders, activists and technologists to co-create apps that improve civil liberties in Iran. Nahoft was created to bypass Internet shutdowns in Iran, which are becoming more and more common and are used by the Islamic Republic of Iran to curtail the freedom of expression, press and assembly in the country. And to hide, in plain sight, their human rights violations from the international community. Check out Nahoft and share it with your friends and family in and outside of Iran. You must set up your contacts in Nahoft before the internet is cut off. https://nahoftapp.com/ #NahoftApp #DigitalSecurity #StopInterentShutdown #Encryption #AbanProtests #IranProtests #Tech4Good
