United for Iran (U4I) is a nonprofit based in the San Francisco Bay Area working to advance civil liberties in Iran by advocating for human rights, supporting civil society, and engaging citizens through technology. Two of our longest running projects are the Iran Prison Atlas (IPA) and IranCubator. IPA is a dynamic database that tracks and publicizes the prosecution and imprisonment of Iran’s political prisoners. IranCubator is a technology incubator that supports the development of secure mobile applications that protect and empower persecuted populations inside Iran. In 2017 and 2018, IranCubator supported the creation of about a dozen mobile apps that directly empower Iranian citizens to connect, organize and disseminate critical information. Job Description
The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for educating users and promoting at least two United for Iran projects on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. She/he will also be the public relations officer for those projects. The Coordinator will work with U4I team members to produce content for distribution on social media; she/he will be in touch with users, respond to their questions or channel their requests to the responsible team member.
We have a strong preference for applicants who reside in Turkey and can work during Iran’s peak hours for social media activities.
Skills and Qualifications
Key functional skills and background you will bring as a Social Media Coordinator include:

Fluent in Farsi;

Demonstrable experience with social media platforms, particularly Twitter, Telegram and Instagram;

A strategic and intuitive sense of different content development for different platforms;

Highly strategic in user engagement and offering constructive interaction with users;

Aware of social media trends and mechanisms, and creative in utilizing the opportunities in leveraging the organizational goals;

Understanding human rights and civil liberties, and experience with related advocacy;

Excellent communication skills;

Knowledgeable with different platforms’ advertising systems such as Google Ad Campaign;

Knowledgeable with analytical tools such as Google Analytics or Firebase and able to explain complex data in understandable ways;

Experience with photo editing software is preferred;

BA or BS with a focus on journalism, communications, advertising and/or marketing is preferred.
