UPDATED: 30 December Originally Published December 29, 2009 On December 27, 2009, Iranians took to the streets to mark Ashura – a holiday commemorating the death of the grandson of the Prophet Mohammad and his supporters in the battle of Karbala– as well as to express opposition to the current government. The day also marks the 7th day of mourning for the revered Iranian religious leader, Grand Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri who remained a serious critique of the government’s human rights records until his last moments. Early in the day, security forces shot into the crowds, killing at least 10 people and wounding hundreds of protestors. Ali Mousavi, the nephew of the opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, was assassinated point-blank in front of his home. Later, his body was kidnapped from the hospital and is being kept away from his family to prevent any memorial services. About 1000 people were arrested, including prominent opposition figures and human rights defenders. Within hours of footage and news being released from Ashura, thousands of Iranians and non-Iranians internationally mobilized to condemn the violence and stand in support of people of Iran. Demonstrations have been organized in at least 20 cities, including in Brussels, the Hague, Frankfurt, Rome, Munich, Berlin, and Washington DC, where demonstrations were held in front of embassies and consulates. (The event in Washington DC was held front of the Interest Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran). On Sunday December 27th, hundreds of Frankfurt demonstrators surrounded the perimeter of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Consulate, demanding the embassies and consulates to be shut down. Created with flickr slideshow.Rallies were held on December 28th in Berkeley, Denmark, Irvine, Los Angeles, Munich, Rome, Stockholm, Toronto, Vancouver, Vienna, Hague, and Hamburg. Koln held a rally on Sunday December 27th. In the upcoming days, especially as we approach the 7th day of mourning traditionally marked with extensive ceremonies, dozens more demonstrations and vigils will be held. Upcoming events will be hosted in 10 cities across Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and across the United States and Canada during the next week. The governments of various countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, and Canada, have come out to strongly condemn the violence against the people of Iran. During the night of Ashura, citizens of China showed their support by dispersing information across Twitter using the #CN4Iran hashtag. ‘CN4Iran’ quickly became one of the top ten trending topics on twitter. پاسخ فوری جهانی جهت محکومیت خشونت شدید در ایران
در روز یکشنبه ششم دی ماه 1388 مصادف با عاشورای حسینی شهادت امام سوم شیعیان، مردم ایران به خیابانها آمده تا به ابراز مخالفت نسبت به حکومت فعلی بپردازند. این روز همچنین مصادف بود با هفتمین روز درگذشت رهبر محبوب معنوی آیت الله العظمی حسینعلی منتظری که منتقد سرسخت حکومت فعلی برای نقض حقوق بشر بود.
در آغاز روز، نیروهای امنیتی به جمعیت های مردمی حمله کردند و حداقل ده نفر را به شهادت رسانده و صدها نفر را مجروح ساختند. علی حبیبی موسوی خامنه خواهرزاده رهبر مخالف، میرحسین موسوی، روبروی خانه اش بصورت مستقیم ترور شد. بعدا پیکر وی را از بیمارستان ربوده و از دست خانواده اش دور نگه داشته اند تا اینکه موجب جلوگیری از برگذاری تشییع جنازه توسط معترضان گردند. صدها نفر شامل شخصیتهای برجسته مخالف و مدافعان حقوق بشر را دستگیر شدند.
بعد از چند ساعت، هزاران ایرانی و غیرایرانی در سطح بین الملل خشونت دولتی را محکوم کردند و برای حمایت از مردم ایران پشت سر آنها ایستادند. تظاهرات متعدد در حداقل 20 شهر شامل بروکسل، لاهه، فرانکفرت، رم، مونیخ، برلین، و واشینگتن دی سی روبروی سفارتخانه ها و نمایندگی های جمهوری اسلامی سازماندهی شده است (تجمع در شهر واشینگتن روبروی دفتر حفاظت منافع جمهوری اسلامی میباشد).
روز یکشنبه 27 دسامبر در شهر فرانکفرت صدها تظاهرکننده اطراف کنسولگری جمهوری اسلامی جمع شده و خواستار بسته شدن تمام سفارتخانه ها و نمایندگی های جمهوری اسلامی در سراسر جهان شدند.
تجمعات گوناگون روز 28 دسامبر در شهرهای برکلی، دانمارک، ایرواین، لس آنجلس، رم، مونیخ، استوکهلم، ونکوور، وین، لاهه و هامبورگ در حال برگذاری است و همچنین در کلن روز 27 دسامبر برگذار شد.
کشورهای مختلف شامل انگلیس، آلمان، ایالات متحده و کانادا قویاً خشونت علیه مردم ایران را محکوم کردند. در هنگام شب عاشورا، شهروندان چینی حمایت خود را از مردم ایران با اطلاع رسانی از طریق شبکه اجتماعی توییتر نشان دادند. موضوع اطلاع رسانی آنها خیلی سریع تبدیل به ده عنوان برتر در این شبکه اجتماعی شد.
