In conjunction, other cities all around the world are choosing to join in on Jan 2nd-3rd to also show solidarity.
Reasons for Vigil During the holy day of Ashura, thousands of Iranians took to the streets to commemorate the holy holiday and mourn the recent death of Grant Ayatollah Montazeri. During the processions, and in the days since, over 1,100 people have been arrested, and a mounting number of deaths has been reported. We come together to light candles not only to mourn the brutal killings this past Ashura, but also to once again illuminate the very strength and resolve of the people of Iran. Demands 1. Freedom of Speech, Assembly, and Expression 2. Release all Prisoners of Conscience 3. Stop Torture, Murder, and Rape (and hold accountable those responsible)

In memory of the fallen heroes of the green movement, we will light a candle everywhere in the world. All participants are asked – as a sign of mourning for the slain protesters – to wear black clothing and bring a candle. Aufruf zu einer Lichterkette am Samstag, den 02.01.2010 In Gedenken an die gefallenen Helden der grünen Bewegung zünden wir überall auf der Welt eine Kerze an. Aus aktuellem Anlass und am gleichen Tag wird in zahlreichen Orten auf der Welt an diesem Samstag zu dieser weltweiten Lichterkette aufgerufen. Mit der Aktion soll weltweit, zur gleichen Zeit der zahlreichen Opfer der Proteste nach den Präsidentschaftswahlen im Iran gedacht werden, wie auch den jüngsten Opfern am Ashura-Tag vom 27.12.2009. Alle Teilnehmer werden gebeten – als Zeichen der Trauer für die getöteten Demonstranten – schwarze Kleidung zu tragen und eine Kerze mitzubringen, welche gemeinsam angezündet wird. Wo? Weltweit Wann? Samstag, 02.Januar 2010, 18:00 – 19:00 Uhr Die Aktion ist ausdrücklich überparteilich und unabhängig. Sie richtet sich an alle und soll den jungen Menschen im Iran, die seit über sechs Monaten friedlich auf den Straßen der iranischen Städte demonstrieren, Mut und Durchhaltevermögen vermitteln. Unbeirrt der Repressalien soll ihnen durch die weltweite Solidarität gezeigt werden, dass ihre demokratische Bewegung überalle wahrgenommen wird. یک شمع برای قهرمانان راه آزادی در ایران فراخوان برای برگزاری زنجیرای از شمع در روز شنبه دوم ژانویه ۲۰۱۰ به مناسبت یاد بود شهیدان راه آزادی در ایران شمع روشن خواهیم کرد. با توجه به رویدادهای روزهای گذشته همزمان در شهرهای مختلف در سراسر جهان همگان را به برگزاری مراسم افروختن شمع فرا میخوانیم. با این حرکت، قصد داریم در تمام دنیا ، یادبود شهیدان راه آزادی را که پس از انتخابات گذشتهٔ ریاست جمهوری در ایران و به خصوص شهیدان در روز عاشورا را گرامی بداریم. از تمامی شرکت کنندگان تقاضا میکنیم به نشان عزاداری برای شهیدان، لباس سیاه به تن کنند و شمع به هم راه داشته باشند که بتوانیم این شمع ها را هم زمان روشن کنیم. این حرکت وابسته به هیچ حزب و گروهی نیست و متعلق به همه میباشد. قصد ما از این حرکت همدلی و همراهی با تمامی کسانیست که از ۷ ماه گذشته در خیابانهای شهرهای ایران به تظاهرات مسالمت آمیز میپردازند. با این حرکت به آنها پیام می دهیم که تنها نیستند و همه جهانیان صدای آنها را میشنوند. خواهشمندیم جهت شرکت در این آکسیون با ما تماس حاصل نماید تا شهر شما نیز درلیست ذکر شود. شهرهای که تا کنون در این حرکت شرکت میکنند به این شرح میباشند: هامبورگ، برلین، کلن، بن، دوسلدرف، فرانکفورت، مونیخ، هایدلبرگ post@united4iran.de
