Sunday April 1, 2012 will mark 10,000 total days that seven leaders of the Baha’i community have spent behind bars in Iran. On this day, United4Iran and local communities are raising awareness in 12 cities across the globe through mobile billboards featuring a call to “Free Baha’i Leaders: Prisoners of Conscience in Iran.” Click here for the press release.

Seven leaders of the Baha’i community have to date spent 10,000 total days behind bars in Iran solely on the basis of their faith. United4Iran joins the Baha’i International Community in raising awareness about their unjust imprisonment and urging their immediate release.
The Seven Baha’i leaders are:
- Mrs. Fariba Kamalabadi
- Mr. Jamaloddin Khanjani
- Mr. Afif Naeimi
- Mr. Saeid Rezaie
- Mrs. Mahvash Sabet
- Mr. Behrouz Tavakkoli
- Mr. Vahid Tizfahm
Prior to their arrests in 2008, the seven were members of an informal national-level group that attended to the spiritual and social needs of Iran’s Baha’i community. They were each sentenced to 20-years imprisonment after six brief court sessions characterized by a lack of due process. Some 20 months after being held without charge in Tehran’s Evin prison, the seven leaders were charged with, among other things, “espionage”, “propaganda against the Islamic republic”, “establishment of an illegal administration” – charges that were all rejected completely and categorically by the defendants. The five men are currently serving out their sentence at Gohardasht prison, some 50 kilometers west of Tehran. The two women are in Evin prison after previously being held in Gohardasht and a brief stay in appalling conditions at Qarchak prison. Bani Dugal, the Baha’i International Community’s principal representative to the United Nations, said, “The seven were, and remain, totally innocent of any wrongdoing. Ten thousand days of their lives have literally been stolen from them forever – days that they would have dedicated to the service of their fellow countrymen. The day is long overdue when these prisoners are freed to be able to make their contribution to the country they love.” Last year, United4Iran appealed for urgent action because there were indications that the lives of Mrs. Kamalabadi and Mrs. Sabet may be in danger due to threats from other prisoners they were being held with. روز شنبه یکم آوریل سال 2012، 10000 امین روزی است که هفت رهبر بهایی در مجموع در پشت میله های زندان به سر برده اند. در این روز و به منظور آگاهی رسانی در این مورد، اتحاد برای ایران و گروه های محلی قصد دارند تا در 12 شهر دنیا و از طریق تابلوهای متحرک درخواست ” رهبران بهایی را آزاد کنید: زندانیان عقیدتی را آزاد کنید” را مطرح کنند. برای دیدن اطلاعیه ی مطبوعاتی اینجا را کلیک کنید.
تنها به خاطر اعتقادات خود، این هفت رهبر بهایی تاکنون مجموعا 10000 روز را در زندان به سر برده اند. اتحاد برای ایران به جامعه بین المللی بهاییان می پیوندد تا در مورد حبس ناعادلانه رهبران بهایی آگاهی رسانی کند و آزادی هرچه سریعتر آنان را مطالبه کند. اسامی این هفت رهبر بهایی به شرح زیر است:

– آقای جمال الدین خانجانی
– آقای عفیف نعیمی
– آقای سعید رضایی
– خانم مهوش ثابت
– آقای بهروز توکلی
– آقای وحید تیزفهم
پیش از بازداشت در سال 2008، این هفت تن اعضای یک گروه غیررسمی بودند که در سطح کشوری به نیازها و مطالبات معنوی و اجتماعی جامعه بهاییان در ایران می پرداخت. پس از شش جلسه ی کوتاه دادگاه و فاقد استانداردهای محاکمات عادلانه، هریک از ایشان به 20 سال حبس محکوم شدند.
پس از اینکه حدودا 20 ماه بدون تفهیم اتهام در زندان اوین تهران به سر بردند، این هفت نفر با اتهاماتی چون جاسوسی، تبلیغ علیه نظام و تاسیس سازمان غیرقانونی مواجه شدند. آنان کاملا و اساسا همگی این اتهامات را رد کردند.
پنج تن از ایشان (آقایان) هم اکنون در زندان گوهردشت نگهداری می شوند، جایی در فاصله 50 کیلومتری غرب تهران. دو تن دیگر (خانم ها)، در زندان اوین نگهداری می شوند. پیشتر این دو تن در زندان گوهردشت و برای مدت کوتاهی در زندان قرچک، با شرایط اسفناکی، نگهداری می شدند.
بانی دوگال، نماینده اصلی جامعه بین المللی بهاییان در سازمان ملل می گوید: “این هفت تن هیچ خطایی مرتکب نشده اند، بی گناه هستند و بی گناه خواهند ماند. ده هزار روز از زندگی از ایشان به زور گرفته شده است، روزهایی که می توانستند صرف خدمت به هم وطنان خود کنند. ایشان می بایست مدت ها پیش آزاد می شدند تا اینکه به کشور خود خدمت کنند، کشوری که به آن عشق می ورزند”. سال گذشته نیز اتحاد برای ایران در این زمینه درخواست یک اقدام فوری کرد، زیرا گزارش هایی حکایت از آن داشتند که ممکن است جان خانم کمال آبادی و ثابت توسط سایر زندانیانی که در کنار ایشان نگاهداری می شدند، در خطر باشد.
