Huddled under 30 degree weather on February 7th, crowds of Toronto residents gathered at Mel Lastman Square to show solidarity for the people of Iran. The event, organized by Solidarity With Iran, was dominated by a sea of signs calling for the end to torture and arbitrary arrests. The crowds loudly protested the escalation in recent violence against the Iranian people, as well as the increase in the execution of students, activists, minorities, and more. The organizers stated that residents had gathered not just to support the people of Iran, but also to “Echo their Voices.” See footage and video from the event below. A second event, hosted by the Iranian Student Federation of Colleges & Universities in Toronto (ISFCU), will take place on February 12, from 4:30pm-6:30pm at 7 Hart House Circle, Toronto.
