Special Event | October 22 | 6:30 p.m. | International House, Great Hall

A group of very passionate Berkeley students have gotten together and organized a program- “Berkeley in Solidarity with Iran.” It is an event sponsored by ISAA (Iranian Student Alliance in America) and “The Hamid & Christina Moghadam Program in Iranian Studies at Stanford”. It is part of UC Berkeley’s Social Justice Week hosted by the Coffin Committee. Through this event, we hope to engage the broader campus audience in the issues of injustice present in Iran during the post election aftermath. It is an all day event, that begins with a rally on Sproul from 12:00pm to 1:00pm that will feature some of the beautiful elements of the culture of Iran, featuring Arash Sobhani (singer) and Heather Rastovac who will perform a cultural dance. Throughout the day, we have two academic panel discussions. One in the afternoon 2:00pm to 3:30pm featuring Dr. Arash Naraghi and Omid Memarian. The main event will be held from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. It entails a one hour showing of a documentary on the Iran election, a short theatrical performance, and a third panel discussion featuring Dr. Nayereh Tohidi, Reese Erlich, and Ali Reza Eshraghi. ihprograms@berkeley.edu, 510-642-9460 Source: http://events.berkeley.edu/?event_ID=24132&date=2009-10-22&tab=all_events
