Join us on the Sunday before the election for a celebration of Iranian music and spoken arts, as we stand with prisoners of conscience and all who have suffered for freedom of expression in Iran!
Sunday, June, 9th, from 11am to 2pm, San Francisco is hosting the first day of the 5-day global solidarity action “Behind Bars” to draw attention to the plight of prisoners of conscience before the Iranian election. This event will be held at SF’s beautiful Justin Herman Plaza. Speakers include Sarah Shourd, the American hiker who spent 410 days in solitary confinement in Evin Prison.
Reception starts at 11am. At noon begins the packed lineup of musicians and speakers of many different backgrounds, each with their own connection to the repression of rights in Iran. There will be information tables for causes ranging from writing letters to working with refugees. All are welcome. Bring your non-Iranian friends!
More information can be found on the event’s facebook page.
