Almost seven months into the invasion of Iran, President Donald Trump intensified his aggressive posture during his September 2026 address to the United Nations General Assembly by openly threatening the "Islamic Republic's" quick annihilation "with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations". Rather than a singular lapse in judgment, this alarming warning directly mirrored his social media post from April 2026, wherein he cautioned that an entire civilization faced total destruction beyond recovery.
At United for Iran, we state unequivocally that threatening the destruction of an entire people and their civilization is unacceptable and must not be tolerated. Words of mass eradication—a threat of genocide—do not pave a path toward security or regional stability. They dehumanize 90 million people, incite fear, and validate a culture and cycle of violence.
Escalating threats from abroad, however, must not obscure the brutal realities faced daily inside the country. While external actors threaten violence, the Islamic Republic continues its ruthless war against its own citizens. Since the outbreak of war earlier this year, the regime has seized on regional chaos to ramp up internal repression to horrific levels. State crackdowns have intensified, with arbitrary arrests targeting dissidents, journalists, lawyers, and human rights defenders, while executions continue to surge. The domestic atrocities and total digital surveillance that defined the regime's response to the January massacres have only worsened under the fog of international conflict.
True solutions to this crisis cannot be built on foreign threats of civilizational destruction or the brutal domestic violence of an oppressive state. Any meaningful path forward must place the well-being of the Iranian people at its center. Peace, security, and stability require a commitment to protecting fundamental human rights, encouraging a path to a democratic transition, and ensuring economic flourishing for all Iranians.
- Human Rights as the Core Foundation: Diplomatic engagement and conflict resolution frameworks must mandate an immediate halt to the Islamic Republic’s domestic crackdowns, an end to state-sponsored executions, the unconditional release of political prisoners, and the restoration of unrestricted internet access.
- A Strategy for Democratic Transition: Long-term stability requires supporting a self-determined transition toward a free, secular, and democratic society—one grounded in popular sovereignty, the rule of law, and inclusive governance that respects the rights of all ethnic and religious communities.
- Economic Flourishing and Well-being: Solutions must relieve the economic stranglehold on ordinary Iranians—who continue to bear the double burden of severe economic hardship and state mismanagement—ensuring their livelihoods and basic welfare are protected and prioritized over military or regime survival.
The Iranian people deserve a future free from both the terror of foreign annihilation and the cruelty of domestic tyranny. United for Iran remains steadfast in standing alongside the Iranian people, tracking state violations, promoting safe activism, and demanding a future rooted in justice, freedom, and human dignity.
