The Ferdowsi University of Mashhad’s student Eftekhar Barzegarian was transferred to Mashhad’s Vakilabad Prison in the ward of hardened criminals and repeat offenders. Eftekhar Barzegarian, the deprived-of-education student from Ferdowsi University in Mashhad, and student campaigner for Mehdi Karroubi in the Province of Mashhad, after passage of 150 days from conversion of his temporary incarceration to the $10,000 bail, and despite bail by his friends, in a completely illegal manner is still in Ward 5 of Mashhad Vakilabad Prison. A source close to the case told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran: “Eftekhar Barzegarian was arrested by security forces on August 26, 2009 at his place of work, and after spending a month in solitary confinement in Mashhad’s Ministry of Information, was transferred to Vakilabad Prison. After spending some time in Section 1/6 (political prisoners ward), was transferred to Ward 5 of the prison, and since that time, has spent a period of 50 days with dangerous and hardened criminals. This is while according to the law, prisoners must be segregated according to their charges.” It is been said that the transfer of this student activist from Ferdowsi University to the ward of dangerous criminals is the result of illegal intimidation to extract televised confessions. According to the mentioned source, security forces have set forth the condition for the release of Eftekhar as his departure from the city of Mashhad, after his freedom. Though a bail order has been issued for a while, Judge Haydary, the judge in charge of his case, has not accepted the bail from his friends.
